January 2001, the biggest job growth has been among those 55 and older, with 3.2 million new workers from that group, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. What's more, older workers are expected to make up a larger part of the labor force in the next 20 years as the baby boomers age. Workers 55 and older made up only 13 percent of the labor force in 2000. But during the next 20 years, the share of older workers is expected to rise to 20 percent.
